Seplaa Canada Partners with Ciqam (Hunza) to Build their Global Growth Strategy
Seplaa Canada has partnered with Ciqam a woman led business from Hunza. Seplaa Canada will be supporting the Ciqam management in their global growth strategy.
About Ciqam:
CIQAM is a women led social enterprise based in Hunza, Gilgit Baltistan that primarily trains women in carpentry skills to produce locally manufactured furniture.
CIQAM currently hold its premises inside the Altit Fort area in Hunza Valley. Since it’s establishment in late 2003, CIQAM has governed policies to principally transform skills into formal business service, enabling young women to overcome socially constructed cultural restrictions and gain economic empowerment through skilled-based trainings.

Seplaa's research Work with Women Entrepreneurs in Gilgit Baltistan SINCE 2018
Seplaa Foundation had been conducting research on the livelihoods of women in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan since 2018.
In 2019, Seplaa Founder Dr. Ammara Farooq Malik was given the opportunity to conduct a research in Gilgit Baltistan with funding support from ICIMOD Nepal. The final research on ‘Social Entrepreneurship for Gendered Climate Action- (SEGCA)’ was based on primary research conducted with 105 women entrepreneurs based in Hunza, Gilgit, Sost, Nagar and Passu.
In 2022, Dr. Malik conducted follow up interviews with some of the Gilgit Baltistan based organizations she had interviewed earlier, for her final doctoral thesis titled ‘Sustainable Business Strategy for Social Enterprises in Developing Countries: A Focus on Impact Law, Policy & Gender for Climate Action’. The thesis was approved by the Business School Netherlands in 2022 conferring the doctorate on the Seplaa Canada CEO.
